Thrift shopping has become quite a trend with today's young people. Why is that? It seems that everybody loves that vintage-retro look these days. As somebody who has grown up going to thrift shops, I'm not surprised. I come from a family of expert bargain shoppers. If it were an Olympic sport, we'd take the gold every time. From $10 vintage Coach bags to $4 Homecoming dresses, we have learned where to look and how to look.
When the economy crashed, business in thrift shops began to skyrocket. It's no wonder-thrift stores have hidden treasures everywhere! Remember those $10 Coach bags I just mentioned? My mom and I found TWO of them on two separate occasions, both real! As the "hipster" look, with its edgy, vintage style becomes more popular, people are flocking to thrift stores more and more. And it makes sense: when money is tight, finding a shirt that was originally priced at $39 for $4 is a pretty exciting thing.
Lucky for me, I live in a city where there is literally a local thrift shop on every corner! With dozens of Goodwill stores around, too, it is so easy to find pretty little things at low prices!
Below are some of my favorite thrift store finds:
Top left: blue denim shirt, $4. Top right: dark gray twill shorts, $4. Middle left: White low-heeled shoes, $5. Middle right: Button-up cotton tanks, $4 each. Bottom left: gray cardigan, $6. Bottom right: blue 3/4 length skirt, $4.
I have gotten rid of nearly 2/3 of my wardrobe, and what remains is the majority of the bargain deals I have found! It amazes me that I fall in love with the little used clothing pieces that I find more than the name brand, full-priced items. Something about thrift store clothing just adds a little character.
You can give right back to them when you've grown out of or don't want your old clothing anymore, too! My school has a drop-off bin for a local thrift store on our campus, and most Goodwill stores have drop-off centers to bring your used items. So you can donate your clothes to somebody else who will fall in love with them. I actually just bought this skirt today, and it may just be my favorite Goodwill find ever. It is so pretty!
I hope you all find pieces that you can fall in love with and call your own!
