My, it feels like it's been forever since I posted on here. Sorry for the absence; the start of the school year can always be hectic. Speaking of school, I thought I would do a post listing some tips to keep you organized for those crazy times they call college.
I've found these tips to be extremely helpful in this crucial learning time.
Develop a routine.
We are creatures of habit, so it is inevitable that we will do things based on a routine we've developed. In the business of college, it is easy to forget to set aside time for homework. And college isn't like high school; homework oftentimes consists of reading, which can take up to a few hours. It is vitally important that you set aside a few hours each day for homework, and stick to that routine. Discipline yourself. This may mean turning down hanging out with friends sometimes because your education should come first.
Use a planner.
With all the things you're expected to remember, it can be so easy to forget what your assignments are. Even if you are really good at remembering things, seeing everything laid out on paper can help you realize how much you really have to do. Plus you can write down different events that you plan on attending, so you don't forget them in the future.
Keep your workspace organized.
When you're running from class to dorm to class, leaving things all over the place is inevitable. But it is so important to keep everything in its place, so that you always know where to find it when you need it. When it comes to your supplies, keeping those organized is just as important. Highlighting key words and phrases can help you pinpoint what is beneficial to remember. The same can go when making flashcards; using different-colored index cards can help you keep different subject topics separated.
For my handouts and worksheets, I use an accordion file. It keeps all of my papers in one place so that I can always find them and they are separated by subject. I also use 5-subject notebooks because it keeps me from carrying around one notebook for every subject.
Lastly, it is crucial that you have a workspace that is free of any distractions. Having a cluttered place to study can easily make you go off of one thing and onto another.
Some of these may have seemed obvious, but they really are so helpful and simple in helping to make the grade.
I hope you all are having a fantastic first day of September!
